Preventive Maintenance
Probably the most important service we offer is regular preventive maintenance. We advise and you opt for the schedule best suited to your vessel. For example, we can visit twice monthly to run all systems, check fluid levels, verify routine services (like cleaning, bottom cleaning, etc.) are being performed correctly. Mold can form and ruin the interior of a Florida boat within a week or two, checking the A/C and dehumidification settings needs to be done regularly. Engines and generators need to run to avoid frozen superchargers, dried out seals and problems caused by low useage. Engine compartments need to be inspected for signs of leaks or dirt in the blldge that could interfere with automatic pumps. If you can’t get on your boat routinely, you need backup maintenance looking for issues before they become problems.
Diagnosis
When something isn’t right, step one is isolating the problem and coming up with a remediation plan. Capt. Harry is a generalist and whether it is a nonfunctioning AC system, or problems with an engine, bilge pump, water heater or navigation instrument he can determine next steps. If the issue is detected during a preventive maintenance visit, he’ll call you and discuss it.
Routine Maintenance
There is a lot to owning a boat, All the following will need service, it is not a question of if but when and it is best to address them before you and your family/friends are out on the water. Capt. Harry personally does all the routine maintenance tasks including prepping a vessel for an owner’s arrival:
• Fueling • Holding tank empty • Fresh water refill • Checking and replacing batteries • Cleaning bilge pump float switches/sensors • Changing out bilge pump cartriiges • Transmission/engine oil and filter changes • Serpentine belt change-outs • Replacing engine/genset impellers • Tightening all hose clamps • Acid flushing to clear calcium and barnacle buildup in AC and engine systems • Boat delivery

Special Repairs
When a problem arises, Capt. Harry often makes the repairs himself. However, if specialized service is needed he knows who to call. All boat maintenance companies work with the factory representatives (Yamaha, Volvo Penta, etc.), but if your boat is out-of-warrantee you have many options for local diesel mechanics, specialists who only service generators, do canvas repair, install/adjust navigation equipment, etc. WCBYM staff know all the local resources and can have the right person on the boat within days, or even hours in many cases. Capt. Harry makes sure they are insured and approved by your marina

Hurricane Plans
WCBYM can design a hurricane plan (required by marine insurance companies for boats in Florida) and carry it out if needed. This is also a requirement in many marinas, and each plan must be individually tailored to the rules of the marina and the particular insurance company. Removal of canvas, specialized tie downs, haul outs if possible all need to be determined, along with who will do it, in advance. Haul outs are often not possible given limited space in boat yards and/or the size of the vessel. If allowed, Capt. Harry and his crew can deliver your boat and manage its haul out and set up on stands in readiness of storms.

Training and Education
WCBYM has staff who can teach you how to use the navigation systems on your boat as well as guide you the anchorages and picnic spots while learning the local waters and practicing your boating skills. Capt. Harry has charter captained for decades off Florida’s west coast.
